Emily, Lady is more poetic than biological. In France they are called ombre (shadow). See http:://www.graylinghunter.co.uk/biology.htm Dr. Jervis

Do male graylings exist, or only female? I keep seeing them referred to pnly as "she", and the "Lady of the Stream," of course. Are they able to breed without males?

I was interested to read this on Wikipedia: "The generic name Thymallus derives from the Greek θύμαλλος, "thyme smell", a name derived from the fragrance of wild thyme that freshly-caught graylings quite often have."
